Why add light therapy?

The therapy employs the use of light-emitting diodes (LEDs) to deliver specific wavelengths of light to the skin and underlying muscular tissues. When it comes to the skin, low light laser therapy sends photons deep into the dermis. This can improve skin health and give your skin a healthy glow. Study suggests, light energy promotes circulation and decreases inflammation, which aids in pain reduction and accelerates the healing process.

According to one study, it also activates stem cells, which leads to tissue healing and cell regeneration. It promotes the repair and restoration of scars, blemishes, wrinkles, and acne scars. Because they can help reduce inflammation, the light therapy is excellent for treating acne, muscle pain, and joint pain.

The varied light wavelengths in the device that I use (red, blue, and near-infrared) target various skin layers and have various effects on the body. Red light stimulates the development of collagen and elastin, which aids in the reduction of fine lines and wrinkles. Blue light reduces inflammation and destroys bacteria that cause acne. To lessen pain and inflammation, near-infrared light penetrates the skin more deeply.

The light treatment device is placed almost directly on the skin, and you simply relax while it does its work.

is this a safe treatment?

Yes. Research has demonstrated that low-level light therapy is a safe and effective treatment that has few side effects associated with it. The occasional person may get a skin reaction with redness and rash. If this happens, these devices are not for you. But generally speaking, they are safe for all skin types, including people who are sensitive. Anyone who has a tumor or abrasion on their skin should not use the product in that area. Light therapy could worsen the condition.

Celluma is a light therapy treatment that does not use UV rays, so there should not be a danger of developing cancer from this product. A study published in Lasers in Medical Science reported that there was reason to be cautious in using this therapy with cancer patients until there are more studies.

I use a device which is registered and approved by the FDA.

how long before you see results?

The results are virtually immediate. The number of treatments recommended and time period between appointments may vary based on a person’s skin and health conditions.

According to the manufacturer, users who have 30-minute treatments 3 times a week for 4 weeks will keep seeing results for up to a 12-week time period. Results from the program will vary based on lifestyle choices.

What are the contra-indications?

This treatment is not advised for those with physical or mental limitations, those who actively have cancer or any tumor or abrasion.

Certain medications, cosmetics or skin conditions may produce a greater sensitivity to the procedure.  It is not recommended to undergo treatment if you have been diagnosed with a physical condition affecting the skin.  As for medications or cosmetics, typically, these products feature a warning label to notify you of potential adverse effects. Please consult a physician prior to treatment if you are using any such products or medications or have a history of skin problems or believe yourself to be sensitive.

What does the research say?

The depth of each wavelength adopted in LED therapy (blue, red, and near infrared) have differing primary targets and photoreactions in the target cells through photon absorption, intracellular signal transduction and finally the cellular photo-response.

Visible wavelengths stimulate cellular metabolism by triggering intracellular photobiochemical reactions. The observed effects include increased ATP (adenosine triphosphate,) an organic chemical that provides energy, modulation of reactive oxidative species (ROS), alteration of collagen synthesis, stimulation of angiogenesis and increased blood flow. Research also demonstrated the increase in the production of multiple growth factors and the inhibition of apoptosis or “cell death”. All studies have demonstrated a statistically significant improvement in skin rejuvenation, as well as enhancing existing rejuvenation treatments.

Clinical studies in the use of red LED (630-700nm) on human and animal tissue, have demonstrated it activates fibroblast growth factors, increasing type 1 procollagen, an increase in Matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) and a decrease in MMP-1. These result in the reduction of fine lines and wrinkles, improvement in photo-aging, a decrease in melanin and softer, smoother healthier looking skin. Skin analysis studies reveal an increased collagen density in the papillary and upper reticular dermis with the collagen bundles more packed and well organized. The thickness was observed to be greater than when evaluated before red LED treatment.

Proven by research, the red and near-infrared wavelengths utilized in the Celluma SERIES of LED light therapy devices combat the signs of aging. These specific wavelengths of light energy are clinically verified to enhance your body's natural ability to generate collagen and elastin by activating the fibroblast cells.
